Its almost time for the Maker’s Faire this weekend (July 30 – 31)! Its my first time going, and I’m really pumped to see everyone’s creations. Think of a wonderland, crossed with genius power, crossed with magic. Yup. Thats what it is. Creators will show off their inventions and ideas. I’m prepared to be wowed. Its also at the most perfect location, The Henry Ford. There is still time to get tickets.
One of the things I’m super excited about is Sean Casey’s Tornado Alley movie showing and the Tornado Intercept Vehicle (known as TIV). I’m sure you have seen that bad boy on TV.
You can check out the schedule and find them on facebook and twitter. Let me know if your going!

Last week was the 75th anniversary of the hot dog on wheels! In order to celebrate, the Oscar Meyer peeps added their latest addition to the wieners on wheels (keep saying wieners without laughing). Ok, stop being silly. This is a family blog, well, not really. 😉
They added a Wienermobile Food Truck, which was at the Renaissance Center, and they gave away 1000 free franks. The best part, was they had Slows Bar BQ Chef Brian Perrone serving them up with his own twist. He made many toppings to choose from.

They are giving away so many cool items, check out what the wiener gets! Yeah, I made a silly wiener joke 😉

Kensington Metro Park is part of the Huron-Clinton Metroparks. Let me tell you, its AWESOME! Even on a snowy day its so much fun with lots to do.
Kensington has some killer slopes for sledding. When we were there some 5 kids piled on 1 sled and zipped down the hill. It was hilarious.
The Picnic areas were abandoned obviously, as well as the farm house area.
The best part was trying to figure out where the land ended and the frozen lake began. The lakes were just like vast sparkling fields of white.
The picture below was taken from standing on the lake. Its a pic of where boats usually tie up in the summer.
I loved how some parts of the lake were cleared off for some friendly hockey games.
Below is me jumping on the lake. Testing the ice.lol. Thank God it held…
Every summer we enjoy the nature reserve area in Kensington. You can usually see ospries, cranes and many other beautiful birds. None of our usual animal friends were around, but that didn’t prevent us from enjoying a stroll. It has its own special beauty in the winter. Especially in its quiet solitude.
Kensington is truly one of my favorite things about Michigan. Its so picturesque year round.
It was gloomy all day, but the sun started peeking out towards the end of our visit, casting beautiful yellows, oranges and pink hues over the grey skies.
Whats your favorite park in Michigan? OR your favorite part of the winter?
It was my first time at the Plymouth Ice Festival and it was awesome! Not even below freezing temperatures could keep me away from Kellogg Park. There were so many beautiful sculptures with so many details to take in. They really sparkled like pieces of crystal. The best part was watching the dueling chainsaw exhibitions. I took some pics of my favorite pieces… Can you believe all the feather detail on the rooster?
Everyone was mesmerized by the fairy. I had to elbow people out of the way to get a shot.
Some organizations sponsored some of the sculptures. My favorite was one from a group promoting the adoption of dogs from the animal shelter and not from inhumane puppy mills.
There was also a super cute teddy bear that was just begging to come home with me. I’m not sure if I would enjoy cuddling with him so much. I would wake up feeling like I peed myself every night.
Look at the stinger on this scorpion. It’s deadly!
Then there was Lady Liberty. Her robes were so beautiful. The detail of the scales mesmerizing.
I never expected to see hammer head sharks on land. They were swimming among some seaweed. And there there was the cutest piranha with the cutest teeth ever. Cute being very relative of course.
A gorgeous Native American was present with an eagle. Look at his pecks and 6 pack. Wawaweewah!
And the best way to propose in winter is below 😉 It was in front of a house close to where we parked. Must have been a great surprise for Amber. Congrats!
You can follow the Plymouth Ice fest on twitter or on Facebook.
My favorites were Lady Liberty, the hammerheads and the piranha. Were you there? What was your favorite and why?
In honor of Halloween, and the fact that I will always be a kid at heart, I wanted to share a really really awesome candy store called Pronto, that is attached to a restaurant, but can really stand on its own!
So much to choose from. Old style nostalgic candy. Colorful lollies. And yummy looking treats.
They also make the cutest little chocolate treats.
Aren’t these the cutest little doggies?
What really caught my eye was all the creatively packaged “gifts”. Everyone loves chocolate, but I will love you more if my gift comes in a pink bucket, and filled with old style candy and Wonka bars
Many different assorted treats.
Many different gum ball machines.
Hands down, the most unique items I saw were all the different HUGE pez dispensers. The thing was the size of my arm!
Some star wars Pez, and some Elvis Pez.
Pronto also offers a large collection of cards.
I haven’t tried out the restaurant, but this placement is a definite yay, and is a great place to start if you are having any sort of gift giving block, especially if its a gift for me 😉
